...where "malformed" probably means "the file is in VARIABLE format". If
you're trying to get Windows to read a text file from VMS, then it needs to be
in STREAM format (with records delimited by CR-LF); for UN*X (including Mac OS
X!) it should be in STREAM_LF format (with records delimited by LF; STREAM
*might* also work, but STREAM_LF would be better).
